I'd like to send a fresh letter to my seldom-attending members encouraging them to come to the Lord's House. I wrote one a few years ago and would like a fresh approach. If you have such a delinquent letter, I'd love to see it. Could you please either post it in the comments or email it me (pastorcurtis at gmail . com)?

ReplyDeleteIs it bad that I have seriously considered sending out this article as my delinquent letter? And that I have it worked up in a tri-fold with the church info and worship times listed? That's not wrong, is it?
ReplyDeleteI would encourage not to send a printed letter. They will glance at it 10 seconds and throw it away. Print up some 1/2 page cards with the church info on it, maybe a Bible passage on the inside, fold 1/2, buy invitation size envelopes. Then write to your people hand-written notes of encouragement. It is significant to send hand written notes to people offering thanks, encouragement, etc.
ReplyDeleteVery good advice - I currently have my list divided into categories, and for one category I do just that. But I have another category that I want a mass mailing for.

This is incredibly hard. For what its worth, this is what we are doing.
ReplyDeleteFor the past year the elders, I am one of them, send out postcards when we have things going on at church such as festivals, start of Sunday school, summer church hours, and such. We also call everyone in our assigned areas. We offer to come and visit them at their homes mainly to listen. We are currently looking into offering a section on our website a possibility for people to contact the elders as well as the Pastor.
We have merely copied the appropriate section of the membership article of the constitution (with Luther's little bit on despising the sacrament and fearing they have no faith) and asking them to abide by their own covenant and promise.
