The Lutheran Beard

Feel like doing something Lutheran for Reformation Day? Misplaced your copy of oppressive canon law and thus can't toss it in the bonfire? You can metaphorically, yet more substantially, oppose the false pretenses of the Bishop of Rome (if you are a secular cleric) by growing a beard.

  1. Is there any historical significance to a patchy scruff? That's probably about all I could manage by the end of October.

  3. I wish I had read this before I shaved on Saturday. But this is a much needed post. If we could get all the pastors, including the ones that people like, to grow beards, this would make it much easier for me the next time I try to grow one like Ziegler. (Not that any pastors that laypeople like read Gottesdienst.)

  4. Thank you. I can now demonstrate, proof positive, that I am more Lutheran than the guys at my winkle.

  6. I had no idea that the "Butcher of Fredericksburg," General Ambrose E. Burnside, was a Lutheran.

"Not that any pastors that laypeople like read Gottesdienst."

I had no idea the pastors who do read Gottesdienst, use terms or phrases like "laypeople," or "...was made fully human."

    Your (unworthy) servant/layman,
    Herr Doktor
